New 2023 Porsche Taycan to receive new software update

After more than 75,000 units of the Porsche Taycan sold since 2019, Porsche has announced new software updates for its electric sports car. The new software update will be implemented on all Taycans regardless of vehicle age, engine, body, and variants to bring it ‘up to speed’ with 2023.

The updates will not only improve performance but also charging efficiency along with additional creature comfort functions. The update is free, in case you’re wondering.

“We have extensively optimised the model series in almost every respect since 2019. Following this update, anyone driving a Taycan from early in the car’s production run will be pleasantly surprised by how much has developed since then,” said Taycan Vice President Model Line, Kevin Giek.

As for the powertrain, in the ‘Normal’ and ‘Range’ driving modes, the front electric motor is almost completely disconnected and de-energised during ‘easier driving conditions’. While coasting and at a standstill, both axles are free any driving force to increase the vehicle’s range. Users can monitor this through the all-wheel drive indicator is now shown as an energy-flow indicator in the central display. The energy recuperation strategy has also been optimised.

On that note, Porsche also said that thermal management of the batteries have improved; allowing the Taycan to be charged more frequently and over a wider range of battery charge levels. The heat from the electrical components, for example, is used even more than before to improve the battery’s performance.

The 22 kW onboard charger previously available in the higher variants will be available for retrofitting but the expenses will be bourne by customers.

Other improvement include the addition of the Spotify app and wireless Android Auto, while models with head-up display will feature improved displays of the navigation, and other displays. The Taycan’s Park Assist function also features sensors with improved range, with the Taycan being ‘even better’ at looking for parking spots.

The precise scope of the update, and the duration of the workshop visit depend on the specific software status of the Taycan in question. The older the car is, the more improvements and innovations will be installed.
