The 2022 Volkswagen Passat R-Line was introduced in early 2022 and is now priced at RM212,938 on the road without insurance including SST exemptions. That’s around RM8,500 more than the model first introduced in 2020 so what do you get for the extra money?
As it turns out, even more. For starters, it’s a lot more powerful. The new Passat R-Line produces 30 hp and 30 Nm more than before, with 220 hp and 350 Nm on the taps from 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine to drive the front wheels. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox from before has now been replaced with a 6-speed unit.
The Passat also comes with five different driving modes, including ‘Individual’ that allows users to separately adjust the firmness of the suspension, the responsiveness of the engine, transmission and also steering.
As the R-Line variant, the Passat gets more aggressive front and rear bumpers with fake exhaust outlets. Completing the exterior are 19-inch Verona wheels, along with the newly designed Volkswagen logos in the front and back.
It gets more exciting inside with a myriad of convenience features, space and practicality. The rear seats can be collapsed 60:40 to accommodate longer items with plenty of leg room for passengers even with the front seats pushed back to fit a 180 cm tall driver.
For an even more luxurious ride in the back seat, there are rear sunshades too; for the sides and rear windscreen.
Moving forward, in typical Volkswagen fashion, the front seats offer plenty of support in the rib section to minimise body movement when cornering, with memory function for the driver side. By the way, the seats are upholstered in Nappa leather!.
For entertainment, the Passat R-Line is fitted with a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers and subwoofer. Other features include a 30-colour ambient lighting system, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, 3-zone air-conditioning, a highly customisable digital meter display, touch-sensitive air con panel, and three USB-C ports.
The glovebox even comes with a cooler function! Boot space is rated at 568-litres. For safety, owners can rely on six airbags, a blindspot monitor, rear-cross traffic alert and hill hold control.
