Volkswagen pays tribute to Star Wars with special edition ID. Buzz

As part of this year’s Star Wars celebration and the brand’s new series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Volkswagen has presented the ID. Buzz Light Side Edition and Dark Side Edition. Both units were also presented at the premiere of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Using special adhesive films, the designers at Lucasfilm and Volkswagen created skins that convey the two sides, drawing specific inspiration from Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, two iconic characters in the series.

In the Light Side Edition, the beige lower section is a tribute to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s tunic outfit while the chrome bits refer to the design of the spaceships and droids in the Star Wars universe.

The blue line that stretches from the headlights to the side of the ID. Buzz symbolises Obi-Wan’s blue lightsaber. The glass surfaces of the ID. Buzz are designed in transparent blue, complementing the underbody lighting. Logos of the Rebel Alliance can be found on the side windows as well as on the center caps of custom 21-inch wheels.

The ID.Buzz lettering at the rear of the vehicle is designed in the classic Star Wars ‘Aurebesh’ font, similar to the letterings by the side fenders.

The Dark Side Edition projects a more sinister impression with ominous shades of black and red. The body is finished in two shades of black while the sidelines, headlights, and window surfaces are in red, inspired by the Darth Vader’s lightsaber. Unlike the Light Side Edition, the Dark Side Edition bears the logo of the Empire – just the kind of details that would get Star Wars fans aroused.

The ID. Buzz is powered by an electric motor paired to a 77 kWh battery that drives the rear wheels with 204 hp and 310 Nm. It is estimated to offer up to 520 km of electric driving range. It accommodates five passengers although Volkswagen will offer a six-seater option soon.
