The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe is so beautiful it’ll make you tear

BMW Group Malaysia has just launched the newest member of the BMW line-up, completing the revival of the old 8-series after 30 years of absence.

The 850i xDrive Coupe which can be yours for RM1,088,800 comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 530 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The V8 engine’s “voice” is further enhanced by a flap-controlled sports exhaust system.

This allows the (rear-biased) all-wheel drive coupe to propel from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, before topping out at an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The 850i xDrive sends power to all four corners through an 8-speed Steptronic Sports tranmission, while an electronically-control rear differential lock spreads power between the two rear wheels.

On the outside, standard equipment includes BMW’s Laserlight, the slimmest headlights on any BMW model, an M rear spoiler, a front lower lip, and 20-inch style 728 M light alloy wheels.

The colour you see here is called Barcelona Blue but when specified in Sunset Orange exterior colour, the wheels can be had in Jet Black. Stopping power is provided for by 19-inch M sport brake discs with M calipers.

For better aerodynamics, the 850i’s underbody is almost completely covered, aided by active air flaps, adjustable kidney grille slates and air curtains.

Aside from the Adaptive M Suspension, the 850i xDrive also comes with Integral Active Steering to reduce turning radius, improving agility on the tighter bends and while offering more composure along the high speed corners.

Inside, the 850i xDrive comes with an M leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, M pedals and driver footrest, Merino leather upholstery and active seat ventilation.

Resting in the dash is BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional featuring a 12.3-inch high-resolution display along with a 10.25-inch Control Display that utilises the new BMW Operating System 7.0.

Supplementing the new system is a 20GB hard-drive based multimedia system and built-in SIM card with unlimited data, especially for the Intelligent Emergency Call function.

Like every car manufacturer at the moment who feels the need to impress with an intelligent voice command system, BMW has conformed to this social norm as well.

The 850i xDrive features the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant that responds to “Hey BMW”. If you dislike calling your car a BMW, you can even customise it to be “Hey Audy” or “Hey Merci” for instance.

Applied for the first time is the BMW Digital Key which employs the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology – allowing the car to be locked and unlocked with a smartphone.

Simply hold the smartphone up against the door handle to open the doors. Once inside, the engine can be started when the phone is placed on the Wireless Charging tray.

The new BMW 8 series can be had in Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Sonic Speed Blue, Barcelona Blue, Sunset Orange and Mineral White.
