The inaugural Cars of Malaysia (COM) 2018 convoy saw EVOMalaysia.com, Roda Pusing and us embarking on a 2,000 km journey around Peninsula over the span of four days and three nights. We started our journey in Batu Caves, Selangor, make our way up north and circling back down to Johor Bharu through the East Coast before arriving home at Putrajaya.
Bringing some of the winning cars from the COM 2018 awards, from the humble Proton Iriz Premium 1.6 CVT (Compact Hatchback of Malaysia) to the gnarly Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 (Premium Compact SUV of Malaysia), this convoy was meant to bring some of the most celebrated Cars of Malaysia to fellow Malaysians.
Along the way, we had the utmost honour and privilege to meet some of you readers (and viewers). Some travelled an hour to meet us at our rendezvous point, some waited for hours till we arrived, and we cannot thank all of you enough for your kind words and support to all of us. Shout out to Azlan, John, Shaun and Chin who joined us on this epic adventure in their prized ride, crunching all those miles with only one driver behind the wheel.
Like Bobby Ang of EVOMalaysia.com proudly said, “We took the longest U-Turn from Batu Caves to Putrajaya”. And we were glad we did. Our journey took us through Belum Rainforest Resort where we experienced some of the most exciting B-roads with cambers only seen on race tracks to witnessing some of the most scenic routes from Mersing to JB.
It was not the smoothest sailing trip either, having to scout for a tyre shop to fix a puncture on a Sunday morning, chasing the sunlight to capture the perfect moment to getting the Citroen C4 Picasso stuck on Pantai Klebang – which we managed set it free with the help of some extra manpower, although it would’ve been easier if we the extra horsepower (I’m looking at you, Mr Mah).
Despite the blood, sweat and tears, the COM convoy was incredibly blessed with good weather and smooth traffic, allowing us to achieve what we set out to do – bring the Cars of Malaysia, to you.
