BMW Malaysia sold over 3,200 plug-in hybrids, 44% of all cars sold are hybrids!

BMW Group Malaysia has achieved their best ever sales performance for the BMW iPerformance portfolio, selling over 2,300 units of the BMW 330e, BMW X5 xDrive40e and BMW 740Le combined. And that’s only for the first six months of 2017!

BMW Malaysia has sold over 3,200 electrified cars since June last year, which equates to about 44 percent of the company’s total sales to date. That’s significantly more than the world average of 3 percent, and still considerably more than Nordic countries’ 14 percent share.

According to Managing Director and CEO of BMW Malaysia, Mr. Han Sang Yun, the positive growth and take up rate for BMW iPerformance shows that Malaysians are ready for the newest tech in their cars. Of all the brand new F30 3 Series sold in Malaysia to date, 60 percent is of the 330e variant, whereas the 740Le accounts for 40 percent of all the 7 Series sold.

With the increasing number of eager adopters of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), BMW Malaysia together with GreenTech Malaysia aim to grow the number of charging infrastructures (ChargEV stations) to 25,000 by the year 2020. There is currently 200 units scattered nationwide.
