Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 4MATIC (CKD) launched in Malaysia, priced at RM325k

With the launch of the fully imported Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 4MATIC early this year, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has sold more than 600 units of the premium SUV. With promising demand for the GLC, MBM has decided to locally assemble the GLC 250 4MATIC.

The GLC will be the first premium Mercedes-Benz SUV to be assembled in the company’s assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang. As such, the SUV will receive more kit and a slight reduction in price. RM3,000 cheaper to be exact.2016 Mercedes GLC250 4MATIC CKD Launch

To commemorate the launch of the locally assembled GLC 250, MBM organised a drive for the media to experience first hand the GLC 250. The drive to their Pekan plant went smoothly and comfortably, as expected of a car bearing the three pointed star emblem. To find out how the GLC drives, read our in-depth review of the car here.

Despite being locally assembled, the GLC is not a completely-knocked down (CKD) unit. Instead, it is a semi-knocked down (SKD) unit. What this translates to, is that every part and panel is imported from Germany. The imported parts are then put together in Malaysia. Hence, SKD. However, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be introducing the GLC as fully CKD when the paint shop is fully renovated and operational. There’s no official statement on the whether or not the price will be brought down further, but we can trust MBM’s management to deliver just that.

With RM3,000 slashed, the equipment and specifications are as per CBU units, and more. Exterior wise, the GLC wears an AMG-line kit and sits on 20-inch AMG wheels. Drivetrain is the same as well – a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four that produces 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic. As the 4MATIC badge denotes, the GLC comes with permanent all-wheel drive system. With a fuel economy rated at 7.1 litres per 100km, the premium SUV qualifies as an EEV.

New to the SKD GLC is a Touchpad with Controller on the centre console to provide a more intuitive experience in navigating the infotainment system. Besides that, full LED ambient lighting with three different colours is added, as well as a new stowage space package. The package includes a tensioner strap in the centre armrest storage, map pockets at the back of the front seats as well as a collapsible box and netting for the boot. A lovely premium touch to the SKD unit are additional door sill panels finished in brushed stainless steel.2016 Mercedes GLC250 4MATIC CKD Launch

The GLC 250 4MATIC SKD is not only more convenient and cheaper, the car is also available with Mercedes-Benz Agility Financing. This will allow customers to finance the GLC with a monthly instalment of only RM3,258 (terms and conditions apply)! Bookings are now open for the SKD GLC.

MBM’s decision to introduce a SKD GLC will definitely contribute to their already astonishing half-yearly results. No doubt that MBM is gearing to achieve yet another record breaking year.
