Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM), just less than two weeks after launching the facelifted A-Class, have introduced the limited-run A 250 Motorsport Edition conceived to commemorate the brand’s successes in Formula One.
It’s essentially a done-up A 250 Sport (one that costs RM238,888), so the bulk of your RM18k premium will go to the rarity and exclusivity of the Motorsport Edition, if you’re into that sort of thing. So what do you get? Aesthetically, it comes finished with Petrol Green highlights (the colour scheme for Mercedes-AMG’s Formula One car) which adorn the front and rear bumpers, including the side mirrors and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels. There’s also a large rear spoiler with the sides finished in the same green hue.
Inside, the air conditioning vents get petrol green surrounds, and this extends to the stitching on the seats, floor mats, dashboard trim, centre armrest and door trims. The seats are upholstered in a mix of black leather and Dinamica microfibre, featuring – yes, you guessed it – more petrol green decorative strips. Elsewhere, things remain the same as the A 250 Sport; black roof lining, illuminated door sill panels, Audio 20 system with CD playback as well as the 8-inch head unit.
Despite bearing the word Motorsport in its name, the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine shared with the A 250 Sport makes identical figures here – 211 hp at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 6.4 seconds before maxing out at 240km/h. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and it rides on the same sport suspension as the Sport which reduces ride height by 15mm. 
If you fancy yourself the A 250 Motorsport Edition, be sure to place your bookings quick because MBM will only be selling a limited number of this fully imported variant. It’s unclear how many will be officially brought in, though. You can have yours in either Cirrus White, Cosmos Black, Polar Silver and Mountain Grey finishes. Unfortunately, the matte grey finish you see here won’t be available.
So, dear readers, would you spend RM256,888 for an A 250, or would you spend it on a more practical (but less powerful), locally assembled C 200 Avantgarde for RM8,000 less?
