The facelifted CLS has finally arrived here. Officially brought in by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM), the sleek four-door coupe comes in a single variant, the CLS 400. This replaces the CLS 350 in MBM’s range of vehicles sold here in Malaysia.

Costing just shy of RM 600k, the gorgeous CLS 400 comes fully loaded with AMG Line kit and MULTIBEAM LED headlamps as standard. This represents a better value than the outgoing CLS 350 which was previously sold at RM 760,888.

EXTERIOR

The W218 CLS is not new but it has recently been given a refresh that consists of a pair of smoked taillamps and a new face complete with diamond grille flanked by a pair of MULTIBEAM LED headlamps.

Apart from using less energy and better illumination compared to xenon, the MULTIBEAM LED headlamps is smart enough to adjust the light pattern automatically according to the traffic condition. It works with the sensors and GPS to read the road ahead and it will even turn the beam to illuminate any upcoming corners way before the steering is turned.

As mentioned, the Malaysian-spec CLS 400 comes with the AMG Line, which adds on aggressive looking bumpers as well as a set of polished 19-inch wheels.

INTERIOR

The interior gains a new steering wheel and a redesigned dashboard with a free-standing 8-inch screen. COMAND Online is standard, allowing internet surfing as well as incorporating the navigation system with 3D map.

Mobile connectivity is possible with Bluetooth, and you can even connect your iPod or iPhone via the integrated Media Interface. Meanwhile, sound is provided by the Harman Kardon sound system with 14 speakers for a “360-degree listening experience”.

PERFORMANCE

To match its sporty looks, the CLS 400 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, delivering 333 hp and 480 Nm to the rear wheels via the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 in 5.3 seconds and maxes out at 250 km/h. And still, the fuel consumption is rated at 7.2 l/100 km.

WHAT ELSE?

Numerous driving assistance systems are fitted to the CLS 400. It includes Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, and PRE-SAFE® Brake with pedestrian detection.
