Previewed in March during the Malaysia Grand Prix weekend, the much-anticipated Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is now officially available here. Barely one month after introducing the CLA 200, the CLA 45 is poised to enter the Malaysian market with currently no direct competitor in sight.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) offers the CLA 45 AMG in the top-spec Edition 1 as per the A 45 AMG, complete with decals and red highlights but the CLA does not receive a big rear spoiler on the bootlid. Even the CLA 45 AMG piloted by Nico Rosberg during the Petronas Motorsports Demo Run was not the Edition 1 model.
EXTERIOR
The CLA’s looks has been further enhanced by the AMG trim, which features different bumpers and side sills from the standard CLA 200. The front bumper now incorporates additional front splitter in matt titanium grey, and the side intakes are not only larger, they even have discreet flics along the top edge. The side sills also have matt titanium grey inserts to complement the front splitter.
At the back there’s a matching matt titanium grey diffuser at the lower edge and the bumper is punctured with vertical air outlet vents on each side. The rear finishes off with a pair of rectangular chromed exhaust tips. As with the A 45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG rides on 19-inch matt black multi-spoke alloys wrapped with 235/35 section tyres.
INTERIOR
Inside the CLA 45 AMG there’s a thicker sports steering wheel with bigger pair of shift paddles. There’s no gear selector stalk, instead the E-SELECT lever is now located at the more familiar location in the center tunnel. The front occupants gain a pair of serious-looking sports seat, while all the seats are covered with ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre complete with red stitching and red seatbelts. An AMG menu has been added into the main display screen which includes the RACETIMER.
PERFORMANCE
You can be assured that there will be no shortage of performance from this car. Powered by the currently world’s most powerful four-cylinder engine, it sends out 360hp and 450Nm of torque to all four wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed transmission. The claimed acceleration time from 0-100km/h is 4.6 seconds and the top speed is electronically-limited at 250km/h.
Even with all that power it produces, it is claimed to sip 6.9 litres of fuel per 100 kilometers based on the NEDC combined fuel consumption. With the clever AMG 4MATIC all wheel drive hardware and the ESP Curve Dynamic Assist Electronic Stability Program, the car should offer superior cornering ability in any condition.
WHAT ELSE?
Even though there is the CLA 45 AMG is only offered in the Edition 1 specifications, there are two different trim options available. For RM 392,888 you will get the Light Aluminium Trim or you can add another RM 3,000 for the AMG Carbon-Fibre Trim.
