12.6 million litres of subsidised diesel sold since implementation of Budi Diesel

Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, announced that since the rollout of the Budi Diesel programme in Peninsular Malaysia on 27 June 2026 and East Malaysia on 1 July 2026, the scheme has benefited over 238,000 owners. To date, over 12.6 million litres of diesel have been sold, involving over RM23 million in government subsidies, Bernama reports.

The minister added that there have been more than 336,000 diesel transactions as of 4 July 2026, covering the early access phase from 27 June until 30 June where fuel was priced at RM2.15 per litre, and full implementation thereafter at RM2.10 per litre.

Additionally, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) has granted approval to 200,000 pickup truck and SUV owners for an additional 100 litres of diesel under the programme.

According to the MOF, the approval increases the recipients’ monthly quota of subsidised diesel from 200 litres to 300 litres, with over 174,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia and over 22,000 recipients in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The MOF stated that the approval was granted taking into account the higher consumption of diesel among pickup truck and SUV owners, including small and medium business use as well as for travel to rural and remote areas.

The minister further stated that the government introduced a quota-transfer facility after receiving feedback involving diesel vehicles used by immediate family members or whose ownership records had yet to be updated. Under this facility, original recipients can now apply to transfer eligibility via the Budi Madani portal, subject to specific conditions and verification.

Alternatively, actual users can update vehicle ownership records directly with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), supported by a three-month waiver on ownership transfer fees for diesel vehicles effective 1 July 2026.
