This Ferrari 12Cilindri 1:8 scale model costs more than a Perodua Ativa!

All Ferraris are expensive, there’s no doubts about that, but who knew that even a scale model Ferrari can be just as pricey? What you’re looking at is the Amalgam 1:8-scale replica model of the Ferrari 12Cilindri, and as the title says, it’s so expensive, it costs more than even some actual, driveable, cars.

Amalgam is only making 199 units of the Ferrari 12Cilindri 1:8 scale model, each priced at an eye-watering USD18,220 (approx. RM77k). Luckily for you, the company is also offering an interest-free instalment of just USD4,555 (approx. RM19k) for four months.

I would’ve believed you if you told me this was real! Photo: Amalgam

Like the actual Ferrari 12Cilindri, the Amalgam scale model is also meticulously hand-built to perfection. The company says it took over 3,000 hours to design the model, and each example takes a team of assemblers over 300 hours to put together.

Amalgam worked closely with Ferrari’s Centro Stile while designing the model, using the original CAD designs and material specifications from the Prancing Horse to precisely engineer thousands of individual parts. Even the paint code is the exact same Rosso Imola as you’d find on the production 12Cilindri!

Even the interior – which you can access through the working doors – is painstakingly recreated into the most minute details, like miniature red contrast stitching on the Blu Sterling upholstery, the display on the screens, and even a mini Ferrari key fob on the centre console.

It’s curious, then, why Amalgam decided to not recreate the engine underneath the bonnet, because as the car’s name suggests, the V12 engine is perhaps the singular most important detail of the car. On the real thing, the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 mill makes a whopping 830 hp and 678 Nm, which means a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h takes just 2.9 seconds – all while the engine screams to 9,500 rpm.

Amalgam is also making a Spider variant of the 12Cilindri scale model, also limited to 199 units and priced the same, though that is apparently still in development. If the red and blue colourway don’t quite suit your tastes, you can also ask Amalgam to build you a bespoke model for just an extra USD7,290 (approx. RM30k). A 1:18 scale model of the Ferrari 12Cilindri is also coming soon, priced at a more stomache-friendly (but still expensive) USD1,330 (approx. RM5,524).

To be fair, the Ferrari 12Cilindri isn’t even the most expensive scale model that Amalgam sells. But if I have the choice between this or a Perodua Ativa, I’ll most definitely choose the latter. Then again, I’m definitely not a multi-millionaire.
