Porsche Cars North America have come together with renowned auction house RM Sotheby’s to host an “Online-only” auction on the latter’s website where proceeds from the auction of a rare 991 generation Porsche 911 will go to a Covid-19 fund.
And the car in question is the 911 Speedster, the last of 1,948 units – a car built to commemorate 70 years of Porsche. The GT silver metallic Speedster is yet to be registered and only has 20 km on its odometer. It’s powered by a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six and fittingly mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The 911 Speedster has been specified with the Heritage Design package – which allows customers to choose their preferred plaque number (X of the 1,948 units available) to be mounted between the seats and from a variety of paint work, leather and trim finishes.
It’s also accompanied by a one-of-a-kind book illustrating the assembly and completion of the car, including photographs and an original sketch by the Speedster design team. Also, the lucky owner will receive a letter of authenticity from Porsche confirming the chassis number of the car is indeed the last of the 991 generation to pass through the production line.
They’ve even thrown in a watch into the package to further sweeten the deal – a 911 Speedster Heritage Design Chronograph by Porsche Design. The watch incorporates the Speedster’s historic design features, including a strap made with the exact same cognac leather used inside the Speedster and a silver winding rotor that mirrors the car’s unique wheels.
The case back of the watch, with COSC-certification and flyback function, also displays the engraved chassis number of the last 991 generation 911 – making it a truly one-of-a-kind collector’s item.
Lastly, the car will be handed over to the winning bidder by Porsche Cars North America, President and CEO, Klaus Zellmer. He/She will also be invited to take a personal, behind-the-scenes tour of the Porsche AG Weissach development headquarters – including experiencing the test track – with Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger, heads of the 911 and GT model lines respectively.
