Targeted diesel subsidy: applicants to choose between SKDS 2.0 & BUDI Madani, not both – Armizan

Are you applying for the diesel subsidy? If so, you’re entitled to choose between the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) 2.0 and BUDI Madani, not both, said the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, according to a report by The Star.

“They (applicants) can only choose one. We observed there are farmers or households that have small businesses and do not have a company. Hence, we will help them through the BUDI Madani programme,” quoted Armizan after attending the ministry’s SKDS 2.0 open day yesterday (May 30).

“Further details on BUDI Madani will be announced by the Finance Ministry, whereas our ministry handles the SKDS,” he added.

Rolled out by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Costs on March 6 this year, the SKDS 2.0 is a diesel subsidy rationalisation system designed for companies. Successful applicants will receive a fleet card and are entitled to choose up to three out of five fuel providers within the MySubsidi Diesel System.

A company applying for SKDS 2.0 is required to be a listed company in Malaysia. It must also own a diesel-powered vehicle among the 10 vehicle types listed under SKDS 2.0 with a valid road tax.

The BUDI Madani diesel subsidy programme on the other hand has just been announced by the Ministry of Finance recently and is designed for agriculture smallholders. Successful applicants of the programme will receive RM200 monthly.

An applicant for the BUDI Madani programme must be a Malaysian citizen and an owner of a private diesel vehicle registered under the Road Transport Department (JPJ) with a valid road tax. Luxury cars under the age of 10 are the exception.

The diesel rationalisation is only carried out in Peninsular Malaysia, while Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan are exempted at the moment. Armizan says the government is observing how the rationalisation is carried out in Peninsular Malaysia and is monitoring how the mechanism can be fine-tuned.
