Porsche Mission E confirmed for production, and it aims to slay Tesla!

Porsche, after bidding farewell to the 911’s naturally aspirated flat-six, drops yet another shocker today by confirming production of their an all-electric model, dubbed the Porsche Mission E.

It’s a historic moment for Porsche because the Mission E will be the company’s first 100 percent electrically powered sports car, ever. The strictly four-seater Porsche packs 600 hp that sends it blitzing from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, and apparently it’ll hit 200 km/h in less than 12 seconds. 2015-Porsche-MissionE-Concept-Frankfurt-09

Powering the car is a cutting-edge electric drive system that sends power to all four wheels, and its high-discharge density batteries and motor allow multiple “full throttle accelerations” in a very short duration – a technology that hasn’t made its way to present day electric vehicles. Despite that, it boasts having a range of over 500 kilometres in a single charge!

The Porsche Mission E will come with an 800-volt turbocharger (or Porsche Turbo Charging) system that juices the car up to 80 percent in just 15 minutes. Alternatively, the car can also be charged wirelessly via an induction coil built into the garage floor. All this may seem too far-fetched now, but Porsche aims to make the car available by the end of the decade2015-Porsche-MissionE-Concept-Frankfurt-06

Besides the obvious ploy to give Tesla a run for their money, Porsche claims that the Mission E project is part of their sustainable growth vision. This project created more than 1,000 job opportunities at the company’s headquarters alone, and with it a 700 million euro investment to expand future operations.
