While it’s no secret that the DB9 is an ageing monstrosity, the folks at Gaydon have decided to spice things up a bit by introducing the DB9 GT – a more powerful and luxurious version of the DB9 moniker.
This handbuilt English 2+2 sports car comes with an all-alloy 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, but here it is tuned to make 540 hp at 6,750 rpm and 620 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Gearbox choice is the same Touchtronic II six-speed gearbox with electronic shift-by-wire control, sending drive to the rear wheels. Aston says the DB9 GT will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds – about 0.1 seconds quicker than the outgoing DB9, before maxing out at 295 km/h.
Carried forward are the double wishbone suspensions at the front and rear axles, featuring still the three-stage Adaptive Damping System that offers three driving modes – Normal, Sport and Track. Styling is a little different too, as it comes with black front splitter and rear diffuser, revised head and tail lamps, new 20-inch 10-spoke design alloy wheel, black anodised brake calipers and a GT engraving on the aluminium fuel cap. If you want some of the aerodynamic bits finished in carbon fibre, that comes at a cost. Optional, of course.
Besides power gains, the interior also receives a touch of upgrade. For one, the GT comes with an AMi II touchscreen infotainment system – a much improved AMi unit debuted in the Vanquish. It’s now more user friendly and offers text message integration, vehicle status information and wallpaper or theme customisations. It also supports AM/FM, Bluetooth connectivity and comes with USB ports.
Besides the new head unit, the steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara and the head restraints get the ‘GT’ lettering embroidery. The centre console is also new, taken straight off the Vanquish as part of their interior upgrade.
