Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific is back! Round 1 for Season 2015 started off in Sepang International Circuit on the bright and sunny weekend of 14th and 15th March 2015. Using the Ferrari 458 Challenge Evo race machines, each round consists of two races of three classes: Trofeo Pirelli, Pirelli AM, and Coppa Shell.
For Race 1 on Saturday, in Trofeo Pirelli class only three out of five cars finished the race. Pole sitter Steve Wyatt from Austalia lost his position momentarily to Phillipe Prette from Italy but eventually regained his spot and held a comfortable lead towards the chequered flag while Renaldi Hutasoit from Indonesia secured the final place on the podium.
Ziad Ghandour from Lebanon won the Pirelli AM class followed by Thai driver Voravud Bhirombhakdi who muscled through from seventh position while keeping Xu Wei from China in third place. First place in Coppa Shell goes to Xin Jin from China ahead the two Japanese drivers Ken Seto and Tadakazu Kojima in second and third place respectively.
On Sunday, Steve Wyatt took pole position again for Race 2 in Trofeo Pirelli class, ahead of David Tjiptobiantoro from Indonesia and Italian Philippe Prette. The first two positions remain the same as the starting grid, but Philippe retired on lap 11 and third place goes to Renaldi Hutasoit.
Meanwhile in Pirelli AM class, Ziad Ghandour and Voravud Bhirombhakdi had to settle for second and third position as Xu Wei managed to clinch himself the top spot on the podium.
In Coppa Shell, Xing Yan Bing from China finally took his first win since he joined in 2011 after successfully overtook his fellow compatriot Jin Xin halfway through the race. Jin Xin kept his pace until the end of the race, landing him the second place on the podium ahead of Ken Seto.
