Xiaomi announced that they have yet again smashed another lap record around the notorious Nürburgring Nordschleife. This time, it is the record for the fastest production SUV, set by the Xiaomi YU7 GT ahead of its official market launch on 21 May 2026, with a blistering time of 7:34.931.
For comparison, the previous record was set by an Audi RS Q8 Performance with a time of 7:36.698 in 2024. The driver responsible for taking the YU7 GT around the 20.83 km circuit was Xiaomi’s chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan, cementing him as the first professional driver from China to receive an official Nürburgring lap certification.
The Xiaomi YU7 GT is the souped-up variant of the YU7, equipped with a dual-motor powertrain that reportedly produces a whopping 1,003 hp (738 kW) according to regulatory filings. It boasts a top speed of 300 km/h and a range of 705 km (CLTC).
Xiaomi did not fully reveal the performance specifications of the YU7 GT, but states the GT variant features Akebono carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston callipers on the front and four-piston callipers on the rear. It also rides on chunky 295 mm rear tyres and sports a more aggressive exterior with larger air intakes.

Other GT variant exclusives seem to include ‘GT’ emblems and embroidery in the interior, alongside carbon-fibre trimmings. Crucially, the vehicle that set the lap record was equipped with a track package, though the company did not state what this includes in depth.
This is not Xiaomi’s first time breaking lap records. The company previously fielded the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype and a production SU7 Ultra around the Nürburgring, clocking a time of 6:46.874 for the prototype and 7:04.957 for the production car. The production variant sports a tri-motor powertrain that produces an astounding 1,548 hp, resulting in a zero-to-100 km/h time of 1.98 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h.
And if you fancy having a go at replicating those records yourself, you can do so on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 with a copy of Gran Turismo 7, because the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has been added to the sim-racing video game.
