JPJ wants Pos Malaysia to resume licence and road tax renewal services

Here is an important update from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia regarding the key documents for driving and vehicle ownership.

JPJ is reminding vehicle owners to have their expired road tax or “Lesen Kenderaan Motor” (LKM) and driving licences to be renewed before September 30th.

The department back in July granted an extension of expiry for the CDL (our regular driving license), GDL (for commercial vehicles), and PSV (public service vehicles such as e-hailing and taxi) until November 11th.

The press release (above) issued today brings forward the expiry of all driving licenses to the end of September instead. JPJ and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are also scheduled for enforcement activities on the roads from October 1st.

To ensure a smooth and safe renewal of the two key documents, JPJ has discussed with POS Malaysia to resume JPJ transactions at over 650 POS Malaysia branches nationwide from August 9th.

The department also assures that there will be a sufficient supply of materials to facilitate the expected surge in renewals. Hopefully, the same attention would be applied to social distancing SOPs!

The JPJ also requests for renewals to be done online through their MySikap portal as well as MyEG. All transactions that are not available to be performed online can only be done via appointments at JPJ branches. Walk-ins will not be entertained.

Please ensure your vehicle is covered with valid insurance and bring along the “e-cover note” while driving with an expired road tax slip.
