Proton has just started a short tease of a new variant of their flagship X70 SUV, with the model simply called X70 SE or Special Edition.
The company first revealed a similar blue painted X70 Exclusive Edition (EE) for the Brunei market in June. It was limited to just 37 units in conjunction with the celebration of the 37th National Day of Brunei Darussalam.

Not much detail has been shared, but based on the visual accompanying the model registration page, the X70 SE for Malaysia does not differ much from Brunei’s EE units.
In the X70 EE, the 19-inch wheels with Y-spoke design that was first seen on the 2019 Geely Boyue Pro are used as the biggest visual indicator (and upgrader), as well as a black-painted roof and side mirror covers. While Proton is calling it a ‘brand new look’, it is certainly not getting the Geely Boyue Pro’s new front fascia.

Units for Malaysia however is getting the option of red paintwork, as opposed to just blue in Brunei.
Inside, the X70 EE for Brunei is fitted with Black Nappa leather with subtle red highlights to replace the existing upholstery in brown.
The new Proton X70 SE is scheduled for an online unveiling on Thursday, 22 July at 11 a.m. on their Facebook page.
To recap, the Proton X70 is powered by the 1.8-litre turbocharged engine generating 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The benchmark century sprint time is 9.5 seconds.
The high-spec Premium variants currently include niceties such as a handsfree tailgate, Nappa leather upholstery, power-adjustable front passenger seat with “boss-switch”, enhanced voice command function, nine-speaker premium audio system and the advanced driving assistance package. The Premium X just adds a panoramic moonroof.
Prices for the Proton X70 start from RM89,900 while the range-topping X70 Premium X 2WD is at RM115,800, thanks to the ongoing SST tax exemption that was extended until the end of 2021.
