Mercedes-Benz revealed their latest C 450 AMG 4MATIC at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, together with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupé 4MATIC.
|Name||Mercedes-Benz C 450 AMG 4MATIC|
|Engine||2,996 cc V6 twin-turbo|
|Transmission||7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed Automatic|
|Max Power||367 hp @ 5,500 – 6,000 rpm|
|Max Torque||520 Nm @ 2,000 – 4,200 rpm|
The C 450 AMG 4MATIC is the second model under the new AMG sports model range after the GLE 450 AMG Coupé. It also uses the same 3.0-litre biturbo V6 seen in the bigger GLE 450 AMG Coupé.
Although it’s not a full AMG model, the C 450 AMG gets a number of visual enhancement to set it apart from the non-AMG variants. The front bumper receives a bigger set of air intakes with silver chrome trim underneath while diamond grille with chrome pins is fitted to the C 450 compared to the mesh grille that appears on the C 63.
The side window frames are now finished in high-gloss black, alongside the black side mirror caps. Standard fitment to the C 450 AMG is a set of 18-inch 5-spoke black AMG light-alloy wheels with high-sheen finish wrapped in 225/45 R 18 rubbers at the front and 245/40 R 18 rubbers at the back. Optionally a range of 19-inch wheels in various designs are offered as well.
The tail features a bumper with integrated diffuser and twin tailpipes, and there’s a small boot lid spoiler on the sedan or a roof spoiler on the wagon.
There’s also the Night package that consists of dark-tinted rear windows, front bumper trim and rear diffuser finished in high-gloss black, and black chrome tailpipes.
Front occupants are greeted by a pair of sports seats wrapped in ARTICO/DINAMICA upholstery with red stitching, and complemented by designo red safety belts. The driver gets a flat bottom 3-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel wrapped in nappa leather, while the dials bear a sporty chequered flag design with red needles.
The rest of the interior remains the same as with other C-Class, with free-standing screen displaying an assortment of menu using the COMAND controller on the center console.
A 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 resides under the bonnet, paired with the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. Power output is rated at 367 hp at 5,500 – 6,000 rpm and 520 Nm of torque at 2,000 – 4,200 rpm. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is just 4.9 seconds with a limited top speed of 250 km/h, and yet it’s claimed to sip 7.6 litres of fuel per 100 km.
This is helped by Eco driving programme that utilises the ECO start/stop function and sailing function that decouples the engine from the powertrain to use less fuel. It can be selected from the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT settings among the other driving programmes that include Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual.
At the opposite side of the driving programme from Eco is the Sport Plus, that heightens the driving sensation by providing faster gear changes with sportier engine soundtrack.
For better handling, C 450 AMG 4MATIC is equipped with the adjustable AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, that combines independently developed axle components with high aluminium content and electronically controlled shock absorbers. This ensures for a minimum amount of body roll and better traction in corners.
The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system also contributes to the better traction in corners. In the C 450 AMG 4MATIC, the power is distributed 33:67 front to back for higher agility. The ESP® with Curve Dynamic Assist has been tuned with a sportier setup too.
The C 450 AMG 4MATIC comes in either sedan or wagon bodystyle, and both comes complete with ADAPTIVE BRAKE, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, and ATTENTION ASSIST as standard. Option list include 19-inch wheels, performance seats, and designo or Lugano leather upholstery.
