Mercedes-Benz is developing a smart watch that connects you to your Mercedes remotely. The German automaker has just announced a strategic partnership with Silicon Valley-based tech company Pebble Technology, ahead of the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.
Mercedes owners can review important vehicle information remotely like door-lock status (very useful for me), fuel level, mileage and vehicle location on this Mercedes Benz smart watch. When the watch is paired in the car, drivers can activate features such as auto-routing, Siri activation, remote-controlling media or displaying nearby traffic conditions.
It vibrates to alert drivers of potential hazards ahead like road constructions or traffic accidents. To make all this work, Mercedes has made necessary changes to its Digital DriveStyle app in order for it to communicate with the smart watch. Do expect other additional features such as monitoring of driver’s heart rate and temperature perhaps.
This idea of smart watches for cars is not the first though, Nissan came up with the Nissan NISMO Smartwatch in September this year. No news from Mercedes on the cost or when it will go on sale at the moment. The prototype of Mercedes Benz Smart Watch will be showcased at the 2014 International CES in January 2014.
