McLaren shareholder Peter Lim to build Motorsports City in Malaysia

Yes boys, there’s a Legoland now, and soon, our ‘big boys toyland’ will come true really soon! Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, who bought McLaren’s shares in a undisclosed amount will be building Motorsports City in Malaysia!

A partnership between his company FASTrack Autosports Pte. Ltd. and Malaysia’s construction giant UEM Land Berhad was inked to build a RM3.5 billion Motorsports City in Johor’s Iskandar region. A special purpose company Crimson Carnival Sdn Bhd is set up for this JV with 70% own by FASTrack Autosports and 30% by UEM Land.

Spreading over 270 acres of land, this Motorsports City is an integrated multi-purpose hub that houses a 4.5 km Grade 2 GT double loop circuit, a 1.2 km kart circuit and off-road circuit for drag racing, karting, motorcycling, truck racing and off-road expeditions. There will be car showrooms, a driving school, bonded warehouses, R&D centres, museum, weekend homes, a clubhouse, a car bar, and other F&B and entertainment outlets. Other facilities for corporate events, conferences, and motoring exhibitions.

Peter Lim, who is also a director of McLaren Automotive, said “As the region is fast becoming a hub for motor sports, enthusiasts who enjoy motoring see the exciting opportunity for such a unique and bespoke integrated development in Nusajaya, one of the five flagship zones of Iskandar Malaysia region.”

This Motorsports City will also house a factory and sales centre of a top kart manufacturer. Serious kart enthusiasts can apply for memberships and even personalize their karts and modify engines to enhance performance.

In addition, a driving school will be operated by a well-known race-car manufacturer running classes on safe driving, circuit and mechanical conditions, control of car in slippery conditions, demonstration of braking and weight transfer, and autocross laps.

For many car enthusiasts, this will also mean more McLarens on Malaysian roads in very near future. As for serious car and bike racers, start pumping up your mean machines!
