Finally, the moment that we… I mean I’ve been waiting for! Honda announced the arrival of CVT version of CR-Z to fulfill our demand! Previously only comes in manual transmission, the CR-Z now provide customers the option of either a stick swinging 6-speed manual version or a slightly more relaxed 7-speed CVT version.
The availability of automatic transmission CR-Z is a very good news for drivers like me who… doesn’t have good left leg and hand coordination. Previously I didn’t try out the CR-Z when I was accompanying my friend for a test drive because I’m not familiar with manual transmission. I ended up being only the rear passenger. The arrival of the CVT version of CR-Z is like a heaven to me, it’s a sports car (kind of) with automatic transmission!
No changes are done to the powerplant though. It uses the same mill for the manual transmission, the 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) Hybrid system. It produces 91 PS @ 6000rpm and 174Nm of torque from 1000-1500rpm in total. The CVT, however, is priced RM4k higher at RM119k than the manual CR-Z. CR-Z CVT’s customers can also enjoy 5-year or 140000km warranty, whichever comes first for the IMA battery.
