The Formula Drift Asia 2012 has been officially announced, kicking off with round one to be held in Malaysia in May 19-20, in just less than half a year after Daigo Saito displayed tremendous sideways antics to take home the Formula Drift Asia 2012 title. For this year, Malaysia will become the first round of the four round competition after it has hosted the final rounds since 2009. Also, Kuala Lumpur’s newest drifting arena, Speed City KL, will be the venue for the Malaysian round.

Indonesian tyre makers, Achilles Radial was choosen as the title sponsor while Canon will be the co sponsor. Also be there for this round are the same judges of Formula Drift Asia series, like Daijiro Yoshihara, Andy Yen and Benjamin Khoo, with on ground commentor will be the same person who has been the voice of Formula Drift USA, Jarod DeAnda.

No official participant lineup has been announced yet but the most interesting news we get is Malaysia’s favourite drifter, also known as the Prince of Drift, Tengku Djan, will be returning to Formula Drift Asia after been hiatus for a year. Driving for the new M7 in the Nissan Silvia this time, expect him to be a top favourite for the Malaysian round together with other Malaysian’s top drifters like Ser Ming Hui (Ah Fai) and many more, competing against a strong line up of top drifting talents from Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and so on.
