Audi ‘s involvement in motorsports needs no introduction. They may not be involved in Formula One, but the name Audi is indeed an remarkable brand in the world of motorsports. Not only they have dominated well in the Endurance motor racing with numerous Le Mans 24 hours wins under their belt, their motorsports history started way back in rallying where Audi was the first manufacturer to introduce the famed Quattro all wheel drive system in which bought Audi into rallying domination, was before the Mitsubishi and Subaru days.
Audi did involve in track racing which includes sports car racing with the famed R8 in numerous of GT events and the DTM series with the A5 and still participates until today. But come this year mark a very interesting year for Audi in endurance racing. For the first time, they will introduce the R18 e-Tron, which is the first turbo diesel hybrid in endurance racing. The machine is powered by a V6 510HP TDI diesel engine and assisted by a regenerative braking system that gives it not only hybrid power but also powers the car’s all-wheel drive drivetrain. Expect this to be a very serious contender on the World Endurance Championship which kick starts soon, with the legendary Le Mans race in in June 2012.
