Interestingly, we have found a blog post from this chap Aero who made a compliation of Proton cars from all around the world. From that page you will be amazed that how this small car manufacturer from the jungle clearings of Malaysia (an old Top Gear joke if you can remember) can be found in some parts of the world, from the United Kingdom, Australia, Middle East and get this, the United States of America. Special credits to this chap and you can find the original link here.
In our first part of the series, we explore Proton’s biggest export market, the United Kingdom, and some parts of Europe.
Foreword, Proton has been exporting to overseas for many years and it used to be a fast growing car brand in the UK when the Saga sedan car was exported in the UK in the late 80’s. However, competition caught up and with Proton struggling to develop newer models, Proton has faded out like we can see today. Despite Proton’s ownership of British sportscar maker Lotus, Proton is still struggling in the UK with sales up to 1,000 units only per year or so.

Surprisingly, Proton is a choice for Police Force in the UK. They love to use it as their “Bobbies” (a term to describe their police cars in the UK)
Proton cars are also involved in many motor sports in the UK. Just recently we can see the Proton Satria Neo S2000 in rallying while the Proton Gen-2 sedan (aka Persona) is racing at the BTCC.

Similarly in Malaysia, the Satria is a popular choice for rallying in the UK in smaller categories

Strangely, there is a Proton Wira found registered in France and Germany. Pretty odd choices considered a variety of choices of cars in Europe. Proton did not enter those markets as well.
Even in Mother Russia, there’s one Proton Coupe (Putra) found there.
