Here’s another interesting find. Trusting a politician in the modern climate is like trusting a snake oil salesman or even a used car salesman. A survey from UK revealed that Britons would rather “buy a used car” from Barack Obama or Germany’s premier, Angela Merkel than UK’s prime minister, David Cameron. This poll was designed to shed light on the trust felt for the world’s best-known political leaders.

Only Italy’s outgoing Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi outranks David Cameron as the leader from whom the British people would LEAST like to buy one – according to the online poll of over 2,000 Britons conducted by YouGov on behalf of craigslist, the free classified ads site used by a growing number of Brits to buy and sell used cars. Respondents picked from a list comprising probably the world’s six best-known leaders: Obama, Cameron, Merkel, Berlusconi, Sarkozy and Putin.

Silvio Berlusconi

Here’s the actual poll numbers:

Q. Which ONE of the following world leaders would you MOST LIKE to buy a used car from?

1. Barack Obama 28%
2. Angela Merkel 14%
3. David Cameron 13%
4. Vladimir Putin 2%
4. Silvio Berlusconi 2%
6. Nicolas Sarkozy 1%

None of these 28%

The current president of the United States, ranks top of the list when it comes to global leaders, with at least twice as many respondents preferring to buy from him than anyone else. “If Obama fails to win re-election next year, he could always launch a used car business in the UK”, says Jim Buckmaster, CEO of craigslist. “But he should clearly avoid partnering with Silvio Berlusconi, or even David Cameron.” This shows that even the Brit has less trust on their current leader to manage the United Kingdom in the era where economic uncertainty is hitting hard in Europe.

Over the past few years, UK’s famed motoring journalist and Top Gear host, Jeremy Clarkson, has written in his articles that if he runs for Prime Minister for UK, he will start by banning electric cars and have regulations to have cars with minimum horsepower of 150hp. He is also a strong critic of the former UK PM, Gordon Brown but appears to like Cameron, although I can’t confirm if this is true now. Will this spark opportunity for Clarkson to run as Prime Minister? Surely, this going to be revolutionary, from Aston Martins as official government cars and autobahns around UK to banning of electric and hybrids cars.

Most importantly back to Malaysian local front, will you buy a used Proton from our current Prime Minister?
