Marco Simoncelli’s tragic passing two weeks ago in Sepang, Malaysia is still felt by many motorsport fans. During the final round of the MotoGP race in Valencia, Spain, rather than doing a moment of silence which is usual to pay tribute to the departed, Simoncelli’s family thinks otherwise. The father thinks his son will prefer others to pay tribute by doing what he loves the most, which is to race motorcycles. Which they did during the tribute show in Valencia.
Before the race is started, all riders from 125cc, Moto2 and MotoGP class ride together in a lap of noise. That includes Valentino Rossi, a close friend of Marco who rides with a specially designed helmet and waving a flag to remember his dear friend. Former 500cc champion and motorcycle racing legend, Kevin Schwantz, took honors by riding Marco’s number 58 Honda Gresini RC212V and lead hundreds of riders in a tribute lap of noise and emotion to remembrance their friend.
The tribute lap ended with a 2 minute fireworks salute at the grid, where thousands of people stood to pay their respects. It is a strong tribute, yet an odd one but it is for the special Marco Simoncelli. Ciao, Super Sic, and here’s the video for your viewing.
