Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.. the highly anticipated sports sedan, the all-new redesigned 2012 BMW 3-Series is here! The first and only difference you’ll notice from the first look as compared to the previous already-gorgeous 3 Series is the extended headlights that join with the kidney grills. It is a classic BMW 70’s feature. Like every other BMW Series’ they just keep looking better and better.
Are you one of the many 3 Series owners or passengers who complain about the small interior? Worry no more! BMW has added 0.71 inches of legroom, 0.6 inches of kneeroom and 0.31 inches of headroom! This new model is bigger, front track is wider by 1.46 inches, the rear by 1.85 inches and length has increased by a full 3.66 inches. Even though with the increase in size, it is 88 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
This new 3 Series, codenamed ‘F30’ comes in four trim variants namely, the Sport Line, Luxury Line, Modern Line and M Sport Package. The Sport Line has gloss black interior with red accents and gloss back trim on the exterior which translate to an aggressive sporty look. The Luxury Trim, on the other hand has shiny chrome and a special set of 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Modern Line, set to be a little low profile come with satin aluminum trim and 18-inch turbine-style alloy wheels. The M Sport Package, as usual has a special touch from the M division, is dressed in an aerodynamics package, 18 or 19-inch M Design wheels, M Sport suspension, M short-shifter and various other M-branded stuff.
Under the hood, the F30 is powered by BMWs new TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that was first debuted in the Z4. BMW says the new 328i will accelerate from 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 209 kph, 250 kph in the Sport Line. The features in this new powerplant give the new BMW 328i the sort of power which with a naturally aspirated engine would require more cylinders and larger displacement. At the same time, with its all-aluminum crankcase, this engine is lighter and more compact than a 6-cylinder engine of equivalent power. This has obvious benefits for driving dynamics: the reduced load on the front axle gives this sports sedan greater agility and further improved steering and cornering characteristics.
This new car comes with tech gadgets: new full-color, high-resolution Heads-Up Display; Active Blind Spot Detection System; Camera monitoring for a Lane Departure Warning System and Collision Warning; and a new Surround View system with Top View and Side View to augment the rear-view camera.
