The first round of a new local drift championship series, Federal Tyres Open Drift Championship (FTODC) took place in Speed City KL on July 30-31 2011. The new drift series is aimed for amateur and professional local drifters in Malaysia, looking to show off and compete their drifting skills into the next level. The event, organized by Federation D, a local Drift event organizer, was divided into two categories, amateur and professional, hence providing a fair chance to all competitors of all levels.

The expert event was won by top local drifter Fazreen Ismail, aka Along Rempit with his Nissan Cefiro, defeated Lim Joe Hann’s Toyota Supra in the finals. Third place, won by Chester Lim after defeating Ivan Lau, who was the top qualifier in the expert category, more noted for his infamous rotary powered Toyota AE86.

The winner, Along Rempit!

In the amateur category, it was a double celebration for Nissan Cefiro as Nor Auri steered his Cefiro into victory, outperformed local drifter, Ahmad Farham on his old school Toyota KE70. This grassroots event gives opportunity for other talented Malaysian drifters to gain exposure and experience as other top local drifters like Tengku Djan and Ser Ming Hui should aim to compete in International levels.

However as I was away when the event took place, we took pictures from our fellow reader and friend, Ridzuan Abu Bakar from Detik Indah Photography, hence special credits to him! The next event will take place on Sept 24-25, so hopefully we will be there to cover the event!
