Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2012 Volvo S60 the Top Safety Pick award. To achieve this recognition, the car has to get through stringent IIHS crash tests and perform very well for the front, side, rollover, and rear crash protection, plus standard electronic stability control (ESC).

As compared to the previous S60, this new one scored a lot better, especially the side impact and rollover tests. According to IIHS, the current federal standard of roof strength is 1.5 times the weight of the car. The roof of this new S60 can withstand a force of 4.95 times the car’s weight. That’s 3.3 times better!

This is like a tank in disguise. A pretty one.
