Meet the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class range – E 200, E 300 & E 350

Since the discontinuation of the Mercedes-Benz E 350e plug-in hybrid in Malaysia, official distributor Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has reshuffled the E-Class range in Malaysia.

There are now three variants of the locally assembled E-Class limousine available starting from the E 200 Sportstyle Avantgarde, E 300 Exclusive Line and E 350 AMG Line. All variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine but only the E 350 gets an additional EQ Boost Integrated Starter Generator (ISG).

The E 350 AMG Line succeeds the E 300 AMG Line as the range topper in this revised line up, priced at RM399,888 – a mere RM10k more than the previous range-topper. Standard kit reads AMG Line exterior with Night Package, Multibeam LED headlamps, 19-inch five-twin spoke AMG alloys, Dynamic Body Control suspension, Nappa Leather upholstery, Panoramic sunroof, Burmester surround sound system, powered tailgate, wireless charging and 360-degree camera.

Safety kit is a big jump over the old E 300 AMG Line with the inclusion of Driving Assistance Package that bundles Active Blind Spot Assist, Lane Tracking Package, autonomous emergency braking and Distronic plus (adaptive cruise control with stop & go).

Stepping down to the E 300 Exclusive Line, the only difference with the E 350 AMG Line are the Exclusive Line exterior and interior kit as well as 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. The rest of the equipment dittos the range topping model.

Into the entry level E 200 Sportstyle Avantgarde, it gets a more basic set up with 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, Avantgarde exterior (more generous chrome treatment), LED High Performance headlamps, reversing camera and Artico leather upholstery. It loses out on the powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, Burmester surround sound system, powered tailgate and Driving Assistance Package (Active Blind Spot Assist is fitted onto the E 200).

Both the E 200 and E 300 are powered by the M264 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with the lower variant getting 197 hp/320 Nm and 258 hp/370 Nm on the E 300. The E 200 can manage the century sprint in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 240 km/h while the higher output E 300 gets there in 6.2 seconds and have its top speed raised to 250 km/h.

The E 350 is too powered by the same M264 unit but is supplemented by an additional EQ Boost ISG that promotes drivability and fuel economy. Output is now rated at 299 hp and 400 Nm which allows the E 350 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Top speed remains at 250 km/h.
