Video: Compact Hatchback of Malaysia, Proton Iriz – #COM2018

Hatchbacks are hugely popular with Malaysians. Be it a college student or a retiree, you can’t go wrong with a compact hatchback that is stylish, easy to park and fun to drive and it’s the same reason why the Proton Iriz received high praises at the inaugural 2018 Cars of Malaysia Awards:

The Iriz was updated in June 2017 with minor aesthetic changes. The main improvements run skin deep with the introduction of three engine mounting points (as opposed to four from before), better cabin insulation, updated exhaust system and transmission tuning that collectively improves the hatchback’s Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) levels significantly.

There are four variants available and two powertrain options – a 1.3- and 1.6-litre VVT engine making 94 hp/120 Nm and 107 hp and 150 Nm respectively. A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is available on both engine options but only the 1.3-litre has the option for a five-speed manual. The Variable Valve Timing (VVT), CVT and Eco Drive Assist Indicator technologies work together to return good fuel economy as proven on Proton’s 1 Tank Adventure Challenge in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and a 700 km drive from Johor to Penang.
