What’s the Buzz: New ticketing system in Sunway Pyramid…but is that their real problem?

Whether it’s a weekday or the weekend, it baffles me to see the queue just to enter Sunway Pyramid’s parking lot. Up till today, after 29 years of life, it still mesmerises me to see scores of people flocking the mall (or any major mall for that matter) as if there’s no where or nothing better to go or do.

But I guess that’s beside the point. So earlier today, Sunway Pyramid announced that a pilot programme is taking place to test out their new ticketing system that recognises number plates, in replacement of tickets, as seen in a video on their Facebook page.

Think of it as a Smart Tag or RFID system to enter and park in the mall but really, would it be wrong to think of it as a solution to a problem that isn’t really a problem?

The problem, based on my observation while groaning in a car stuck on a congested road due to the long crawl into the entrance of the parking lot, seems to be a lack of parking space. What’s the point of having such a smooth “transition” into a parking lot that you can’t even enter (or take forever to) in the first place?

Neither did 1 Utama Shopping Centre or Mid Valley Megamall paid us to write this article, cause as it stands, they’re no better in that department. That said, I applaud these malls for providing stands for Grab pick-ups but it seems that Malaysians feel the need to properly utilise the vehicles they spent a large chunk of their salary on, so we’re back to square one.

It doesn’t help now that the school holidays have begun either.
