KLIMS18: This is the most aggressively-styled Toyota Camry ever

If the pictures don’t do the all-new Toyota Camry any justice, you might want to come on over to the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show to check it out yourself.

The all-new 8th-generation Toyota Camry will only be available in one variant – 2.5V priced at RM 189,900 – and will be a fully imported model from Thailand, with 5-years unlimited mileage warranty.

The new car is powered by the carried-over 2AR-FE 2.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine that’s good for 184 hp and 235 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed Super ECT transmission with optimised gear ratios for smoother acceleration.

Overall, the car which is by far the most aggressively-styled Camry, is wider, longer and sits lower with a longer wheelbase. On the outside, you get 18-inch alloy wheels, the first time it’s been offered on a Camry as the previous model only offered up to 17-inch wheels.

Five colours are available; they include Red Mica, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Silver Metallic, Graphite Metallic and Burning Black.

Suspension wise, the rear multi-link setup has been replaced with double wishbones which means this thing will go through corners with the composure of a certain “beer promoter” involved in a recent controversial incident.

A full range of LED lighting is offered in the front – automatic bi-LED projectors, LED turn signals, LED daytime running lights, fog lamps and tail lights. At the back you get dual exhaust tips – both of which are functional, if you’re wondering.

Inside the fully-redesigned interior is a new dashboard layout, (super comfortable) leather seats with a particularly smooth surface, 8-way powered seats with memory function (only for the driver), a dashcam, an 8-inch touchscreen display, 9-speaker JBL sound system, a 7-inch multi-info display and a 10-inch colour head-up display.

What’s more interesting is the switch by the front passenger seat, that allows the rear passenger to recline and push the front passenger seat forward should more legroom be needed. Toyota is really pushing for the new Camry to be considered as a chauffeur-driven car, aside from being a premium family sedan.

Safety wise, the new Camry is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance system which includes Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beam and a Pre-collision system.

This adds to the seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain and driver’s knee), Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Hill-start Assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
