KLIMS18: The new Toyota Vios should be the next B-segment best-seller

No, I refuse to believe that’s an over-exaggerated statement. Sure, this particular model previewed by UMW Toyota Motor may have an additional body kit on but I strongly believe the new head and tail lamp design of the new Vios alone is enough to draw your attention.

Along with the launch of the all-new Toyota Camry, Toyota also previewed the new Toyota Vios to whet our (and your) appetites, with their order books now open. Prices start from an estimated RM 77,200 for the Vios 1.5 J, RM 81,200 for the 1.5 E, and RM 87,300 for the 1.5G.

The new Toyota Vios will be available in five colours – Dark Blue Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic and Super White II.

Under the hood rests the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine carried over from the previous model, paired to a 7-speed CVT gearbox. Output is rated at 107 hp and 140 Nm.

Halogen headlamps with follow-me-home function, 15-inch alloys, keyless entry, Eco and Sport modes, push-start button, automatic air-conditioning and illuminated door sill plates will be available as standard.

In the 1.5 E mid-range variant, you get an additional multi-function steering wheel, 360-degree camera, a dashcam, LED tail lights, fog lights, electric side mirrors and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

Only in the highest spec 1.5 G will you get projector headlights, leather seats, a leather steering and leather gear knob, paddle shifters, six speakers, front parking sensors and a 4.2-inch multi-info display.

Safety wise, all the variants are equipped with seven airbags as standard, along with ABS and EBD, brake assist, stability control. In the E and G variants, you get an additional Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
