The highly anticipated W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has just landed in Malaysia. Launched in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s (MBM) Urban Hunting Festival, there will be two variants of the hatchback available immediately – the A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line.
Retaining the A-Class’ youthful and dynamic character, the main highlight of this new-generation A-Class is its state-of-the-art in-car connectivity and modern cockpit design. Both the A 200 and A 250 comes generously equipped and carries a price tag of RM227,888 and RM263,888, respectively.

EXTERIOR
The A 200 wears the Progressive Line exterior kit complete with the LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and 18-inch five-twin spoke alloy wheels. The A 250 AMG Line wears a sportier appearance and 18-inch five-spoke AMG alloy wheels.
INTERIOR
Inside, the A-Class range checks all the feel-good bells and whistles such as multifunctional sports steering wheel, powered front seats with memory function, keyless entry and go, 64-colour ambient lighting, illuminated door sills, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rearview camera and the Widescreen cockpit that combines two 10.25-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.
The innovative Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system is also standard across the A-Class range. Users can access the intelligent voice control with natural language comprehension with can be activated by saying “Hey Mercedes”. The voice command can support numerous infotainment functions such as destination input, phone call, music selection as well as climate control and ambient lighting setting.
Differentiating the A 200 and A 250 are the Black open pore lime wood trim, leather sports steering wheel, and illuminated door sill panels. The A 250 AMG Line gets upgraded to a light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim, Nappa leather steering wheel and AMG illuminated door sill panels.
PERFORMANCE
Powering the A 200 is a new 1.33-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 163 hp and 250 Nm of twist. Drive is channelled to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, allowing the A-Class to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds onwards to a top speed of 225 km/h.
For those craving for a bit more performance, the A 250 with its 224 hp and 350 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder would be your pick. With the same seven-speed DCT and front-wheel drive layout, century sprint is done in 6.2 seconds while top speed is raised to 250 km/h.
SAFETY
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, anti-theft alarm system, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist, Automatic high-beam control and all the usual acronyms you’d expect from a three-pointed star brand.
