Video: BMW i8 Roadster, Things You Need To Know

It’s not every day that carmakers launch their flagship sports car back to back, but BMW Malaysia has just done just that with the introduction of the facelifted BMW i8 Coupe followed by the first-ever i8 Roadster all within the space of one month. You’ve seen Eu Jin got up close and personal with the i8 Coupe before now let us check out what is different when you have a foldable soft top:

Sharing the same carbon chassis as the i8 coupe, the Roadster also features the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder engine with an electric motor to give it a combined output of 374 hp and all-wheel drive and a century sprint time of 4.6 seconds. It can also be driven in pure electric mode for 53 km at speeds of up to 120 km/h in MAX eDrive mode.

Although the car is 60 kg heavier and loses out on the two-rear bench (i8 coupe is a 2 + 2-seater), what you do get in return is the luxury to have the fabric roof stowed away for some open top motoring experience. The fabric roof will tuck away in 15 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

If you don’t mind having your BMW i8 Roadster in E-Copper paint and Accaro interior theme (the only combination BMW Malaysia offers), be prepared to sign off an RM1.5 million cheque to BMW Malaysia.
