All-new Peugeot 508 coming to Malaysia, CKD by Q2 2019

Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia has just confirmed that the all-new Peugeot 508 will be making its way to Malaysia as a locally assembled variant by Q2 of 2019!

Malaysia bound units will be equipped with the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder PureTech engine paired to an Aisin sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. Expect Nasim to offer two variants of the 1.6-litre PureTech, one with 180 hp/250 Nm and the other with a 225 hp/300 Nm tune.

The 180 hp 508 will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds before hitting V-Max of 230 km/h while the more potent mill will propel the fastback to the 100 km/h mark in 7.3 seconds. Top speed is also raised to 250 km/h.

The new 508 will be produced at Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah which Groupe PSA has acquired a controlling stake in February 2018 as the first manufacturing hub in ASEAN for Groupe PSA. The plant will also be producing the 3008 SUV and Citroen C5 Aircross.

To refresh your memory of the new 508, the new D-segment rival gets a complete design makeover as part of Peugeot’s move to spice up the slow-moving segment. It comes equipped with slim LED headlamps, mesh front grille, 508 front hood badge, Lion Claw LED taillamp and frameless doors. Despite being smaller in dimensions, the 508 still command a reasonably sized boot of 487 litres.

Inside, the 508 spots the marques latest-generation i-Cockpit design so the small steering wheel design, 12.3-inch heads-up digital instrument cluster, electronic gear selector, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system are all standard issue.

While the second quarter of 2019 may sound like some time away, we are aware that the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) is making a comeback this year after a five-year long hiatus. Car makers would most likely take this opportunity to display their latest and greatest at one of the biggest motoring exhibitions in the country. So, fingers crossed, we might spot the all new Peugeot 508 at KLIMS 2018.
