Would more power necessarily mean more fun for the updated Mazda MX-5?

Mazda has announced that there will be upgrades for both the soft-top and RF versions of the MX-5.

The 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine is now higher-revving and acoustically-tuned, with its redline raised from 6,800 to 7,500 rpm – definitely a plus for the ears when you’re drying your hair in the MX-5.

While it wouldn’t overpower the car, expect beefier acceleration with both horsepower and torque increased from 160 to 184 hp and from 200 to 205 Nm. As for the 1.5-litre model, power is up to 132 hp and 152 Nm of torque.

Both the 1.5 and 2.0-litre engine powertrains also come with quicker throttle response to further enhance the Jinba Ittai driving experience.

Aesthetically, the MX-5 has been enriched with a darker paint finish for both 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels and a new brown canopy for the soft-top models.
