Honda Civic sedan going to UK, 1.0 VTEC turbo & 1.6 i-DTEC turbodiesel

Malaysians are no stranger to the Honda Civic (FC) sedan. Introduced to the local market in 2016, the Civic went on to become the most popular model in its segment and revitalised the slow-moving C-segment sedan segment.

Our friends in the UK, however, have always had their Civic as a hatchback but Honda UK has revealed that they will be bringing the Civic sedan to the UK market. This comes as a surprise as uptake of family sedans have been on a decline in the UK due to shoppers shifting to more versatile SUVs.

Two powertrain options are available at launch – 1.0-litre i-VTEC turbo petrol paired to either a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) or a six-speed manual and a 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbodiesel mated to either a six-speed manual or a new nine-speed automatic. The 1.0-litre petrol mill makes a respectable 129 hp while the i-DTEC turbodiesel makes 120 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

More than just a pretty face

Specification of UK-bound Civic sedan has not been revealed but expect to be quite similarly equipped with our local spec, after all the Civic FC is a global product. Of course, UK shoppers will have the luxury to have added premium features such as Honda SENSING, sunroof and more.

While the Civic hatchback is assembled locally in Swindon, England, the Civic sedan will be imported from Turkey to the UK market.
