If you are wondering why Mercedes-Benz Malaysia did not include the Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC+ sedan in their CKD line up of AMG models, that’s because globally, the E 43 has been phased out and replaced by a meaner and more efficient E 53 4MATIC+.
At the heart of the new E-Class variant rests a 3.0-litre bi-turbo in-line six with EQ Booster starter-alternator that first appeared in the CLS 53, capable of developing a combined output of 435 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Paired to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, the E 53 can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds on both sedan and estate models. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h if you don’t have the AMG Driver’s Package equipped (raised to 270 km/h).
The onboard EQ Boost starter-alternator and 48 V onboard electrical system helps to enhance the car’s AMG performance and driving dynamics while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The electrical system gives the E 53 mild hybrid functions through energy recovery, gliding mode and restarting of the engine with start/stop function.
Otherwise, the E 53 is still a thoroughbred AMG that comes equipped with Dynamic Select drive modes, AMG Ride Control+ air suspension with ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) and larger AMG high-performance brake system.
Visually the E 53 is distinguished by its dual bulges on the bonnet, round quad tailpipe elements, sportier rear diffuser and optional 20-inch five-spoke AMG light alloy wheels. Inside you’ll find model specific items such as AMG Performance steering wheel with red central marking, leather upholstery with red contrast stitching, red seatbelts and optional Performance seats in Artico leather with Dinamica microfibre inserts.
The entire W213 E-Class range has also been updated for 2018 with the latest generation multifunctional steering wheel with touch function, optional SportStyle Package, new wheel designs, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist that allows semi-autonomous driving functions.
