New 911 GT3 RS laps Nurburgring 24 seconds faster than the previous model

Porsche has yet again taken to Nurburgring to stretch the legs of its new car, the 991.2 GT3 RS, against its older sibling’s lap time – setting a significantly faster lap, with visuals to immortalise the feat.

And this video of the new GT3 RS lapping the 20.6 km track, with Porsche works driver Kevin Estre and Lars Kern, is just the cup of extra strength coffee you need for this gloomy Monday.

The fastest time set in the GT3 RS was 6:56.4 – a full 24 seconds faster than the best time achieved in the previous GT3 RS. This feat also made the 991.2 GT3 RS the third production Porsche sportscar with an official lap time of less than seven minutes around the Nurburgring.

“The 911 GT3 RS is as close to racing as Porsche can get with a production sportscar; with countless innovative ideas transferred from the 911 GT3 R for example,” said Frank Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars.

He added, “All four lap times of both drivers were below seven minutes and only tenths of a second apart. This proves not only the outstanding power of the GT3 RS but also its extraordinary driveability at the limit.”
