Dealers impressed with Geely Research Institute, excited with Proton’s future

Selected Proton dealers in Malaysia were treated to an on-site visit at the Geely Research Institute (GRI) in Hangzhou Bay, China to witness and experience the state-of-the-art research facility of Proton’s new partner, Geely.

The GRI is Geely’s flagship research and development centre which opened its doors in May 2017. The facility spans over 67 acres of land and houses nearly 7,000 full-time engineers to work on five key technologies covering safety, internet connectivity, engine, interior environment and driver aids.

The money can’t buy visit opened the dealer’s eyes to the exciting possibilities awaiting in the future after witnessing the scope of technology and research being done by Geely.

Munauwir Mohd Khir, from Edaran Saga Sdn Bhd said, “From what I gather after the visit to the GRI, we could see that Geely takes into account every single detail. From planning to execution, careful thoughts are being put in place to ensure a smooth process. Everything is done in a controlled manner and the processes are in order, from testing to the final product. I also observed that they follow stringent rules and regulations, so this is very good”.

For others like, Mohd Nazrin Mohamad Fozi, of Rahman Brothers Automotive Sdn Bhd, the visit to the GRI more than lived up to his expectations. He explained, “I enjoyed the visit to the GRI. It showcased Geely’s technological capabilities and the future of automobiles. I can imagine if these technologies, like advanced safety and other state-of-the-art features are incorporated into Proton cars, we will definitely be at the leading edge of automobiles in Malaysia, and beyond. The future is really exciting looking at the partnership with Geely.”

Hazree Hashim of Vitalic Sdn Bhd commenting on his visit: “After this visit, I believe I see more clearly now the developments that are on-going in Geely and how Proton could eventually benefit in the long term. From the working culture to the plant, there is a proper system and flow, to doing things. Production is in control and everything looks orderly. I am delighted to say that I am proud to be a part of the troupe who has visited the GRI”.

These dealer visits hope to convince more Proton dealers to upgrade their existing outlets to 3S or 4S centres in anticipation of the new Proton SUV as well as future models to spawn from the Proton-Geely partnership. The new 3S and 4S centres will feature a new corporate image that prioritises premium customer service.
