Mercedes-AMG A 35 confirmed by AMG boss, entry level AMG with 300 hp

In early 2017, we heard rumours that Mercedes-AMG is toying with the idea of a more affordable, entry-level version of their 45-series to bridge the performance gap between a regular Benz (250 models) and an AMG (45 models). It appears the folks at Affalterbach are on track to this vision as reported by Car and Driver.

According to the report, AMG Boss, Tobias Moers has said: “There will be a new AMG 45, but in addition to that, we will launch an AMG 35 with around 300 horsepower.”. This model strategy is similar to what Audi is doing with their A3 models – there is a sporty S3 with 300 hp and a full-blown RS3 with 395 hp.

It is also said that the new generation A 45 will soldier on with the M133 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine but boosted to over 400 hp to retain its title of “most powerful series production four-cylinder engine”. Apparently, the company will continue its one-man, one-engine philosophy with the new generation 45-series, hand-built engines at AMG’s headquarters.

The new W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has made its global debut and it won’t be long before Mercedes-AMG to apply their magic touch. A little too soon to tell, but one can’t help to wonder how much an A 35 would cost in Malaysia …
