Audi has turned the “e-tron Vision Gran Turismo” race car into a reality

If you think about it, it’s not the first time Audi had built a concept for a virtual setting only to eventually turn it into a production vehicle. Remember the Audi RSQ concept driven by Will Smith in I, Robot? That eventually became the Audi R8, whose design was heavily influenced by the RSQ.

Originally developed solely for the Gran Turismo on PlayStation 4, the fully electric Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo was nothing more than a virtual expression of a highly-possible means of real-world mobility but that’s has changed.

Audi has made the virtual race car a reality in conjunction with Formula E where the three electric motor, 815 hp all-wheel drive concept will be deployed as a race taxi – to impress Audi’s guests and customers with a high-voltage experience around the Formula E circuits in Europe, starting April 14 in Rome.

The colours of the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo emulates the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO, a race car far ahead of its time, driven by some of the best drivers in the world then namely Hans-Joachim Stuck and Walter Röhrl.
