Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has released initial details of their upcoming model launch, the Volkswagen Golf facelift or MK7.5. We can confirm three variants of the Golf will be making its debut here – 1.4 TSI, GTI and R.
Starting from the entry-level Golf TSI, it will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder developing 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque to drive the front wheels. Transmission of choice is a seven-speed DSG dual clutch.
The teaser image hints at Adaptive LED headlamps, LED taillamps, keyless entry and start, Air Care dual-zone climate control, Driving Profile Selection, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, rearview camera, cruise control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, seven airbags and electronic stability control. It remains to be seen whether VPCM will continue a two variant (Comfortline and Highline) line up.
Onto the popular hot hatch, the Golf GTI is powered by the same 2.0-litre TSI unit that now pushes out 227 hp and 350 Nm of torque. We will have to wait and see whether VPCM offers the Performance Pack upgrade that gives the GTI additional 14 horsepower. A six-speed DSG dual clutch is tasked to drive the front wheels.
Spec sheet for the Golf GTI reads Adaptive LED headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, chrome exhaust outlets, Vienna leather interior, Keyless Access Start and Lock, stainless steel pedals, a 12.3-inch Active Info Display, powered driver seats and Adaptive Chassis Control, on top of what the standard Golf TSI is getting.
Lastly, the mighty R variant. Powered by an EA888 2.0-litre TSI matched with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, it now delivers 286 hp, up 10 hp from before. Century sprint is clocked in 5.1 seconds thanks to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Like the pre-facelift model, the new R has been detuned for our local market while other markets see the R packing additional 20 hp to achieve a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds.
Standard equipment includes Advanced Adaptive LED Headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system with eight-speakers, Park Distance Control and Vienna Leather interior.
We’ve seen the Golf GTI MK7.5 in the metal and it looks gorgeous thanks to the subtle but very effective styling enhancements. Registration of interest for the refreshed Volkswagen Golf is now open. Better be quick to avoid the long wait!
