Despite its utilitarian looks, the Peugeot Rifter has one of the prettiest interiors

Peugeot has just added a new product to its SUV line up, the Peugeot Rifter. Fully equipped with Peugeot’s latest platform and technologies, the Rifter was built for active individuals who need a multipurpose vehicle to accompany them on their adventures.

Riding on the Group’s EMP2 platform like the 3008 SUV, the Rifter is available in two lengths – a five-seater Standard (4.40 m) and a seven-seater Long (4.75 m). On the Standard Rifter, the boot can accommodate up to 775 litres of cargo with all the seats up.

Design wise, the Rifter borrows much of its design cues from its SUV siblings. As such it wears the brand’s family face such as the vertical grille, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, lion-claw LED taillamps, sliding doors, roof rack and a large tailgate.

Despite the bulky design, Peugeot has furnished the interior with the swanky looking Peugeot i-Cockpit design. You’ll find a familiar layout like 8-inch capacitative touchscreen infotainment, heads-up instrument cluster, smallish two-spoke steering wheel, push start, electronic parking brake and rotary electronic gear selector. Unique to the Rifter is a two-piece sunroof on the left and right side of the cabin.

A range of Euro 6c compliant petrol and diesel engines are available at launch consisting of a 1.2-litre PureTech in two states of tune – 130 hp and 110 hp tune. The 1.5-litre BlueHDi engines, on the other hand, are available in 130 hp, 100 hp and 75 hp guise. High outputs of the petrol and diesel mills will have an option for a new eight-speed automatic transmission for even greater fuel economy and performance.

Customers have the option for the Advanced Grip Control feature that allows the driver to cycle between five driving modes – Normal, ESP Off, Sand, Mud and Snow for better grip on different driving conditions. For the adventurer, there is also a four-wheel drive option for the Rifter.

The Rifter also comes with a range of advanced driver assist technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Signs Recognition, Active Lane Departure Warning System, Driver Attention Warning, Active Safety Brake, Tow Bar Stability Control and Visiopark 180-degree reverse camera.

The Peugeot Rifter will make its world debut at the 2018 GIMS happening in March and will go on sale worldwide from September onwards. Vigo, Span and Mangualde, Portugal factories have been appointed to manufacture the Rifter.
