BMW Concept 8 Series on display in Kuala Lumpur, like how it looks?

Following the cheeky little teaser last month, BMW Malaysia has finally let the cat out of the bag. Lo and behold, it is indeed the BMW Concept 8 Series under the wraps. This marks not only the concept car’s maiden appearance on Malaysian soil but also in South East Asia.

First presented to the world in 2017, the 8 Series Coupe will be positioned as the brand’s flagship model which is slated for its global debut sometime this year. The Concept 8 Series represents BMW’s pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity which resulted in a product that not only delivers sheer driving pleasure but also appeals to the customer’s emotions.

Taking on a luxury coupe body style, prototype testing is still underway before the production model hits the showroom floors. The Concept 8 Series will also spearhead BMW’s next-generation of design language which is already apparent on the X7. New design cues include the flipped kidney grille, angular sculpture and slim LED headlamps.

The doors open to a driver-focused cabin with modern luxury. One of the key design highlights is the fluid transition between the centre console and instrument panel – the latter’s futuristic graphics will find its way into future BMW models.

The carbon fibre shell leather sets, hand-polished aluminium spokes, red-anodised shift pedals strike a sporty intent to encourage the driver to tap into the driving performance of the 8 Series Coupe. In case you’re wondering, BMW has also confirmed that an M8 and M8 GTE race car are already in the pipelines.

Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia, Mr. Han Sang Yun said, “It is an absolute pleasure for us to be able to share our new brand presence and expression for our luxury cars here at the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion. From Toronto, Canada to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, we hope to share our vision of the luxurious appeal of our brand through this one of a kind experiential programme, further demonstrating how we have redefined the idea of modern luxury in the auto industry.”

Members of the public can catch the BMW Concept 8 Series in the metal at the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur from 22 February (Thursday) to 7 March (Wednesday) 2018. There will also be BMW’s full line up of iPerformance plug-in hybrid models on display.
